If only we understood that the Earth isn't flat..

One fine afternoon on a small planet called Xeniter, 4-year-old Ben was inconsolably sobbing because he wanted to meet his friend Emma, who just moved to the other side of the planet. 738 miles away, Emma’s behaviour was no better than Ben’s; she too missed her best friend. This is exactly when Emma’s mom dialled Ben’s residence. The two friends were more than elated to hear each other’s voice. They spoke for hours- about big problems like toothache, lack of new toys, and things beyond the understanding of an adult human mind.

Ben then noticed a big 9-shaped particle in the sky. It seemed to be a 9-shaped light-emitting star. He shouted in amazement “There’s a BIG 9 shaped bulb in the sky!” Emma ran out to the balcony, but found a 6-shaped particle instead. She said that it wasn’t a 9, but was a 6, and Ben argued back. They both had a big fight over that particle’s shape and ended up not talking to each other for months, until they learned that Xeniter wasn’t flat, it was round and that was why Ben saw a 9 while Emma saw a 6.

IF ONLY THEY KNEW XENITER WASN’T FLAT, THEY WOULDN'T HAVE FOUGHT!

You set up your little camps- of whatever you believe in, whatever you stand for, and whatever favours you; with people who share your beliefs, who stand for the purpose you stand for. And you usually label your own camp as the “hero camp” and the other camps as the “enemy camps”, hence you end up competing, arguing and fighting with them.

Why? Because sometimes one does not acknowledge the fact that each person in this world is as unique as a snowflake. This is what makes the world a beautiful place to live in. In this world of millennium perspectives, before making a judgement on choosing one’s perspective subconsciously, one needs to understand which thought leads to which perspective and which perspective leads to which opinion consciously- because it is already known that there is never a single point of view.

We already know that people with different experiences, from different backgrounds can perceive things very differently. WE ALREADY KNOW THAT THE EARTH ISN'T FLAT. But do we understand?

We expect people to look at things from our perspective and regard our opinion as “the correct opinion” but what we fail to understand is that people may be standing in a different area from where our opinion might seem less correct. They might have a totally different view point- just the way Ben and Emma had!

It is quite natural to have a perspective; it is all the more natural to have a DIFFERENT perspective for you have had different experiences which have led you to where you are today. What is wrong in your opinion might be right in someone else’s. Having a different perspective is one thing and flaunting a different perspective while allowing others to flaunt their own is another thing. Knowing that people have different perspectives is one thing and understanding the same is another.

If only we UNDERSTOOD that people have different perspectives. If only we UNDERSTOOD that people perceive things differently. If only we UNDERSTOOD that people view things from different angles...

IF ONLY WE UNDERSTOOD THAT THE EARTH ISN’T FLAT...
